Identity
Ether-Rifters do not throw fire or raise stone. They unmake. The Ether is the seam between schools — the thread on which other Rifters' formula hang — and an Ether-Rifter learns first to cut that thread. Aurelion court-wizards employ them as anti-channeler specialists; the Covenant of the Ebon Creed reveres them as theologians of negation; the Halcyion Federation enlists them as Counter auditors, charged with stripping rogue channels from the field. Strong synergy with the Counter channel and any anti-channel work.
Features
- L3 Ether-Marked
You gain proficiency in the Arcana skill if you do not already have it. When you copy an Ether-Rifting channel into your Channelbook, the credit cost is halved. You have advantage on Arcana checks made to identify a channel being cast, recognize a Rift-derived effect, or determine the source of a magical or channeled phenomenon. When you cast the Counter channel or any channel with the dispel or counterspell tag, treat your effective casting level as one level higher than the slot expended.
- L7 Severing Hand
As a reaction when a creature within 60 ft of you casts a channel that you can perceive, you can attempt to sever the casting before it completes. Make an Intelligence check contested by the caster's channeling ability check; on a success, the channel fizzles and its slot is expended without effect. On a failure, the channel resolves normally. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest. This feature does not consume a channel slot.
- L11 Threadwalker's Sight
You can spend an action to attune your senses to the Ether for 10 minutes. While attuned: you can see Rift-bound effects, channeled creatures, invisible creatures sustained by channels, and the trailing residue of recent castings (within the last hour) as faintly luminous threads; you have advantage on saving throws against channels and Rift-derived effects; and you know the school and level of any channel cast within 30 ft of you without needing an Arcana check. You can use this feature a number of times per long rest equal to your INT modifier (minimum 1).
- L15 Knot-Cutter
Once per short rest, as an action, you can target a single ongoing channel effect, conjured entity, or Rift-bound magical phenomenon within 60 ft. The target must succeed on a saving throw using its caster's channeling ability against your channel save DC, or be ended outright — including effects normally immune to dispelling, provided their original casting level does not exceed your Wizard level / 2 (rounded up). Permanent magic items, divine intervention effects, and Tier V phenomena are not affected by this feature.
- L18 Unweaver
You gain resistance to force, psychic, and rift damage. When a creature within 60 ft of you casts a channel of 5th level or lower, you may use your reaction without expending a channel slot to attempt to redirect the channel's target. The caster must succeed on a Charisma saving throw against your channel save DC; on a failure, you choose a new target for the channel (which must be a legal target for that channel and within its range from the original caster). On a success, the channel proceeds normally. Once per long rest.
