Soldier

Halcyion Federation regular. Squad-trained, disciplined, ranks the bedrock of coordinated combat.

Identity

Soldiers are made on parade grounds: drilled in formation, drilled in fire discipline, drilled until the response is reflex. The iconic Soldier is the Halcyion regular — Federation issue plate, coil-rifle, and faith in the chain of command — but the same training appears in Aurelion legions, Echelon corporate security, and frontier militias. Where Berserkers fight alone, Soldiers fight in concert.

Features

  • L3 Tactical Doctrine

Choose a combat doctrine that shapes how you fight: **Phalanx** (when wielding a shield, you grant adjacent allies +1 AC), **Skirmish** (when you Disengage as a bonus action, you can move 10 ft of your speed without provoking opportunity attacks even from non-adjacent threats), or **Suppression** (when you take the Attack action and hit a target with a ranged weapon, all other creatures within 5 ft of that target have disadvantage on attack rolls until the start of your next turn). You can change your chosen Doctrine during a long rest spent in training or briefing.

  • L7 Squad Tactics

When an ally within 30 ft of you hits a creature in melee, you can use your reaction to add 1d8 damage to the ally's attack, representing your tactical call or covering fire. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your CON modifier per short rest (minimum 1).

  • L11 Field Promotion

You gain proficiency in Persuasion. Once per short rest, as a bonus action, you can rally your squad: each ally within 30 ft who can hear you gains 1d8 + your level / 2 (rounded up) temporary HP and adds a 1d4 die to their next attack roll or saving throw made within 1 minute.

  • L15 Commanding Presence

Allies within 30 ft of you who can see or hear you have advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened. You yourself become immune to the frightened condition.

  • L18 Battle-Field Commander

When you use Action Surge, you can choose to forgo your additional action and instead grant all allies within 30 ft of you a bonus action that they may take immediately, in any order you designate. This use of Action Surge counts against your daily total normally.
