Identity
The patron is not a being so much as a residue. A Mythar Echo is what remains of a Mythar-civilization mind after the civilization that hosted it ended: a fragment in a sealed casket, a verse in a forgotten language, a piece of crystalware that pulses if you set your hand on it correctly. Mythar Echo warlocks usually carry the artifact (or one of its splinters) on their person. The pact is two-sided in a specific way: the Echo wants to be remembered, and the warlock is being shaped, slowly, into a creature that can carry the memory. Echo warlocks tend to use older syntax than is currently in fashion, and often dream the same dream the artifact dreams.
Features
- L3 Ancient Knowledge
You gain proficiency in either the History skill or the Lore skill (your choice). Once per short rest, you can consult the Echo on a question concerning the pre-Collapse Mythar civilization, its languages, its constructs, its sealed sites, or its surviving descendants. The GM provides a single fact the Echo plausibly knows, at the GM's discretion — sometimes specific, sometimes oblique, occasionally untrue in a way the Echo itself cannot perceive. The Echo will not answer questions about the Collapse itself.
- L7 Ether Anchor
You can imprint a 15-ft-radius anti-teleport ward on a location as a 1-minute ritual. For 8 hours, no creature can teleport into or out of the ward, no plane shift or banishment effect can resolve within it, and no Outer Step, Mythar-relay travel, or comparable Rift-shortcutting effect can cross its perimeter. The ward is centered on a fixed point (often the Mythar artifact itself); moving the artifact dispels the ward. You can have only one Ether Anchor active at a time. The ward can be detected by direct examination (Investigation DC 13 + your CHA modifier) but is invisible to casual perception.
- L11 Memory Lance
Once per short rest, as an action, you fire a beam of weaponized Mythar memory at a single creature within Far range. The target makes an Intelligence save against your channel save DC. On a failure, the creature takes 6d10 psychic damage, is Frightened of you until the end of its next turn, and briefly experiences a flash of a moment from the Mythar Collapse that does not belong to it; on a success, half damage and no Frightened. At Warlock level 17, the damage increases to 8d10. A creature with no mind (mindless undead, unintelligent constructs) is immune to the damage but still takes 1 force damage as the beam disperses harmlessly on it.
- L15 Mythar Voice
You learn the Echo's resonant cadence. Once per long rest, when you cast a channel that calls for a saving throw, you can invoke the Mythar Voice as part of casting. The target (one target if the channel targets multiple, designated when you invoke this feature) makes the saving throw with disadvantage, and if they fail, they take an additional 2d8 psychic damage as the Echo's syntax briefly overwrites their attention. Additionally, while you speak the Mythar Voice (a sustained 6-second cadence; takes your reaction in any round you would speak it), creatures who can hear you and understand a language have disadvantage on Insight checks made to detect deception in your statements.
- L18 Echo Form
Once per long rest, as a bonus action, you become an Echo Form — a partial physical manifestation of the Mythar architecture your patron-artifact remembers — for 1 minute. While in Echo Form: • You shed bright light in a 10-ft radius and dim light for another 10 ft, in the deep-violet of pre-Collapse Mythar crystalware. • Your skin is overlaid with floating Mythar glyphs that count as light armor (AC 14 + DEX) if you wear no armor; this stacks with no other armor calculation. • You have resistance to psychic, necrotic, and rift damage. • Once per turn, when you cast a damaging channel, choose one of: change the channel's damage type to psychic, force, or rift; or push every creature damaged by the channel 10 ft in a direction of your choice. • Mythar-tied effects you cast (the Echo determines which; default: any channel from the Ether or Metal Schools of Rifting, plus all Mythar Echo subclass features) have their channel save DC increased by 1 for the duration. The form ends early if you fall unconscious or end it as a free action.
