Identity
Open Fist monks reject ornament. The tradition holds that the body, sufficiently trained, is the only conducting structure a monk needs; Ki is just the body's own language to itself. Open Fist masters are common among Halcyion peace-officer academies, frontier moot circles, and the long-form Aurelion training houses that produce bodyguards for people who object to bodyguards. Open Fist monks tend to be straightforward, profoundly fit, and slightly disappointed by their colleagues' more theatrical disciplines.
Features
- L3 Open Hand Technique
When you hit a creature with one of the attacks granted by Flurry of Blows, you can impose one of the following effects on that target (choose at hit): • **Sweep.** The target must succeed on a DEX save against your Ki save DC or be knocked Prone. • **Push.** The target must succeed on a STR save against your Ki save DC or be pushed up to 15 ft away from you. • **Stillness.** The target cannot take reactions until the end of your next turn. You can apply only one Open Hand Technique per hit, but you may apply different effects on each Flurry-of-Blows attack within the same turn.
- L7 Wholeness of Body
Once per long rest, as an action, you regain HP equal to three times your Monk level. The action draws on Ki cultivated and stored over the course of the day; it cannot be invoked when you have 0 Ki remaining.
- L11 Tranquility
At the end of a long rest, you gain a Sanctuary effect that lasts until your next long rest. Any creature that attempts to attack you must first make a Wisdom save against your Ki save DC; on a failure, the attacker must choose a new target or lose the attack. The first time this Sanctuary effect blocks an attack each day, it remains active afterward; the second time it blocks an attack, it ends. The effect always ends if you attack a creature, force a creature to make a saving throw against one of your features, or deal damage to a creature.
- L15 Quivering Palm
When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can spend 3 Ki to set up vibrations of Ki within the target. The vibrations remain for a number of days equal to your Monk level. As an action at any time within that window — including immediately after the hit — you can release the vibrations. The target makes a Constitution save against your Ki save DC. On a failure, the target takes 10d10 + WIS modifier necrotic damage and is Stunned until the end of your next turn; on a success, half damage and not stunned. Damage type changes to force damage against constructs. You can have only one creature affected by Quivering Palm at a time; setting it on a second target ends the prior vibrations harmlessly.
- L18 Empty Hand
Once per long rest, as a reaction when you would take damage, you can spend 4 Ki to enter the Empty Hand stance until the end of your next turn. While in Empty Hand: you are immune to all damage except force, radiant, and rift; you have advantage on saves against being moved, knocked prone, or grappled; the first attack you make while in this stance has advantage, and on a hit deals an additional 4d10 damage of the strike's type. The stance ends early if you choose to end it as a free action.
