A round or kite-shaped plank shield of laminated hardwood, rim-bound in iron and faced with hide or painted canvas. Cheap to make, easy to replace, and just heavy enough to slow a strike. Frontier militias paint local sigils on the face; Aurelion drill-companies leave them blank until a soldier earns the right to a unit-mark.
