Druid

Full channeler. Channels Rift Energy through the world's living systems — biomes, weather, and the borrowed forms of beasts.

Hit Die · d8 WIS Saves · INT / WIS slots RA · full-channeler

Identity

The natural. Channels through the world's living systems. Galactic druids attune to biomes ranging from a single forest to an entire fungal hivemind. A Druid's casting is a negotiation with somewhere — a glade, a tide-pool, a moon, a fungal arterial network the size of a continent. The Rift comes to them through that place, and so the place comes with them when they cast.

Level Progression

  • L1
    Druidic

You know Druidic, the binding cant of the circles — a layered language of sign, scent-mark, plant-trace, and spoken phrase that other Druids can read across great distances of culture and biome. A non-Druid who attempts to detect or decode a Druidic message must succeed on a Wisdom (Insight) check against your channel save DC, and even on success learns only that a message is present, not its content. Druidic carries cleanly across species: a Myrrhiam Bloom-cleric and an old-growth forest druid recognize one another within a sentence.

    Channels

You channel Rift Energy through the living systems of a chosen biome. You know all Druid cantrips and prepare a number of leveled channels each long rest equal to your WIS modifier + your Druid level (minimum 1). Use WIS for channel attack rolls and your channel save DC of 8 + proficiency bonus + WIS modifier.

  • L2
    Wildshape

As an action, you assume the form of a beast you have observed long enough to imitate — minimum 24 hours of close study, encoded as a Form Slip in your circle's records. You can use Wildshape twice per short or long rest. You remain in beast form for up to 1 hour, or until you drop to 0 HP in beast form, fall unconscious, or end it as a free action. Your statistics become those of the chosen form except: you retain your Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores; you retain your alignment, personality, and channel save DC; and you cannot cast leveled channels while transformed (this restriction is modified by some subclasses). At 2nd level, you may transform into beasts of CR 1/4 or lower with no flying or swimming speed. At 4th level, beasts of CR 1/2 or lower (swim speed allowed). At 8th level, beasts of CR 1 or lower (flying speed allowed). The form's hit points are gained on transformation and lost on ending; damage taken beyond the form's HP carries over to your normal hit point total.

    Inner Grove

Each long rest, you affirm or change your tether to a specific biome — your Inner Grove. Choose one biome type from: forest, grassland, mountain, desert, swamp, coast, deep ocean, vacuum, fungal hivemind, urban (overgrown ruin counts), or arctic. While in terrain matching your Inner Grove, you gain advantage on Survival checks and on Stealth checks made in natural cover, and you ignore difficult terrain produced by overgrown vegetation, loose substrate, low gravity, or fungal mats. Your specific Circle (chosen at 3rd level) determines what additional benefits Inner Grove grants.

  • L3 Subclass feature
    Druid Circle

Choose a Druid Circle — Wilds, Bloom, Stars, Moon, or Salt. Your Circle determines the lens through which you read living systems and grants features now and at 7th, 11th, 15th, and 18th level. Your Circle may also expand the list of biomes available to your Inner Grove and the list of forms available to your Wildshape.

  • L4 ASI / Feat
    Wildshape Improvement

You can now use Wildshape to assume the form of a beast of CR 1/2 or lower, and forms with a swimming speed are permitted.

  • L6
    Form Memory

Through repeated transformation, your records hold deeper than parchment. You may add a number of additional Form Slips to your Wildshape repertoire equal to your WIS modifier (minimum 1). Form Slips do not need to be re-observed if you spend at least 8 hours in your Inner Grove biome each week.

    Wildshape Improvement

You can now use Wildshape to assume the form of a beast of CR 1 or lower, and forms with a flying speed are permitted.

  • L10
    Wildshape Endurance

Your Wildshape duration becomes 1 hour per Druid level. While transformed, you may use a bonus action once per turn to make a single channel cantrip's worth of effect (cantrip resolves as if cast in humanoid form for targeting and saves, but uses your transformed senses and reach where relevant). This does not lift the restriction on leveled channels in beast form.

    Biome Whisper

You can speak with the small life of your Inner Grove biome — plants, fungi, insects, small fauna, and (in vacuum or hivemind biomes) the analogous distributed life-systems. The exchange is limited: you ask, the biome answers in the register of its kind (a forest answers in memory of footfalls and chemical signatures over the last week; a hivemind answers in concept-clusters). The conversation lasts up to 10 minutes and can be performed once per short rest. You can also use this to attempt to soothe hostile non-sapient biome-native creatures (Wisdom save against your channel save DC to charm for 1 minute).

    Timeless Body

Your tether to the living current of the Rift slows your personal time. For every 10 years that pass, your body ages only 1 year, and you cannot be aged magically. This does not grant immunity to death by other causes.

    Beast Spells

You can now cast leveled channels while in Wildshape form, provided the channel does not require components your beast form cannot produce (a beast form with no usable manipulator cannot deliver a touch-range channel that requires a manipulator; a beast form with no vocal apparatus cannot use channels with a strict vocalization component). Your channel save DC and channel attack modifier remain those of your humanoid form.

  • L20
    Archdruid Capstone

Your Wildshape becomes effectively unlimited: you can use it without consuming a Wildshape use, the duration is indefinite (until you end it, drop to 0 HP, or fall unconscious), and the CR cap rises to your Druid level divided by 4 (rounded down). Additionally, channels you cast that require material components consumed by the casting can be cast without the component, except where the component has a listed gold-piece cost in excess of 100 credits or where the component is itself the focus of the channel.
