Vanir

Long-lived, fine-boned, court-trained. The Vanir lineages preserved their channel-craft across the long quiet centuries after the First Continuum Crisis; many of their houses still hold seats in the old courts.

Features

  • Channel-Born

Vanir bloodlines have carried Rift sensitivity since the Mythar era. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic cannot put you to sleep against your will. When you would gain your Rift Affinity at character creation, your starting Rift Affinity is increased by 1 (subject to the standard cap; see decisions D-002).

  • Keen Senses

You gain proficiency in the Perception skill. If you are already proficient in Perception from another source, you gain proficiency in one of the following skills instead: Arcana, History, or Insight.

  • Courtly Composure

You were schooled in the long etiquette of the Vanir courts — diction, deflection, the long pause. You can read, write, and speak Vanir High Cant in addition to your other languages, and you have advantage on Charisma checks made to maintain composure under provocation, gauge a noble's true position, or hold rank in a formal setting.

  • Inherited Cantrip

Choose one cantrip from any School of Rifting at character creation. You know it and can cast it without expending a slot. Your channeling ability for this cantrip is INT, WIS, or CHA, chosen at character creation. The cantrip scales with your character level as normal.

Lifespan

Mature at 50 · Typical max 700 years

Vanir mature slowly and are not considered legal adults in their courts until past their first century. Houses measure their standing in generations rather than years.
